Jose Mourinho may finally get the chance to work with Toby Alderweireld

Jose Mourinho is expected to become the new Tottenham Hotspur manager after the departure of Mauricio Pochettino.

Whilst the Portuguese boss may not be the most popular option to take over from the incredibly popular Argentine, his record in the game truly speaks for itself.

Of course, that was tainted slightly by his final season at Manchester United, where he struggled to gel a winning team.

However, he did have to do so, according to reports, without bringing in one of his main transfer targets. Now, he gets the chance to finally work with that target.

Jose Mourinho wanted Toby Alderweireld at Old Trafford. Mourinho was told that the Belgian was not going to be signed due to his age and transfer fee.

The report suggested the United hierarchy did not want to spend around £50 million on a player who would be set to turn 30 during the 2018-19 season.

It was a position where Mourinho desperately felt Manchester United needed to improve and Alderweireld appeared to be top of his list.

Now he will finally get the chance to work with the Belgian who, last night, Tottenham would appoint ‘a big manager’ to replace Pochettino.

Both men now have that wish and Tottenham fans will hope it breeds success.
