Jose Mourinho has named two Tottenham youngsters he considers first-team players
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has explained that he views both Harvey White and Jack Clarke as first-team players this season.
Spurs travel to non-league opponents Marine on Sunday in the FA Cup third round and Mourinho has confirmed that both youngsters will be in the squad for the contest.
White, 19, is a highly-rated defensive midfielder to come out of the club’s academy.
The all-action enforcer made his first-team debut back in November with a substitute appearance in the Europa League group stages, which remains his one senior appearance to date.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old winger Clarke was signed from Leeds United in 2019 and he’s been kept at the club year after spending last season out on loan in the Championship.
He’s made two senior appearances during the Europa League campaign and is an attacker with a lot of potential.
The pair, White in particular, has impressed in Under-23s football this season, but have been training with the main group.
Mourinho has made it clear that the young duo highly by considering them first teamers.
“Harvey and Jack they are U23s, they play U23s when we feel that they should go there and take minutes but there are professionals,”
“They belong with the first-team squad, they train with the first-team squad since day one in pre-season.
“They played in the Europa League so let’s look at them as first team players and of course they will be involved in the game but they are involved so many times so it’s nothing new.”
TBR’s View:
If Mourinho’s comments are anything to go by, it sounds like both White and Clarke are going to be given their first starts this weekend in the senior team.
They can take big encouragement from the manager’s comments about them being first-team players, but both have a lot of competition to try force their way into match day squads and pressure on their shoulders.
The FA Cup competition looks like the perfect opportunity to thrive and supporters should be excited to see more from them.
