Jose Mourinho hails Tottenham youngster Harvey White, says he can train with squad
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has spoken highly of academy prospect Harvey White, as he was involved in the first-team’s pre-season victory over Reading on Saturday.
The 18-year-old started the 4-1 friendly win against Championship outfit Reading and he managed to catch the eye for his display in the centre of the park.
He is a defensive midfielder that showed his composure in front of the backline, as he was slick in possession and also a presence too.
White is a left-footed that was a regular in the Under-23s side last season and also has the versatility to slot into a left-back position if needed.
Mourinho gave the teenager a special mention after the Reading fixture and suggested he’s now ready to train with the senior squad, but feels he still need to progress to be ready for Premier League action.
“He’s a kid but he’s a talented kid. Is he ready for the responsibilities, for the intensity, for the physicality of the Premier League? No,” Mourinho said, as quoted by the club’s official
“But is he ready to train with us every day to have this evolution and to play in these matches and eventually in some official matches where we need to rotate players? Yes he is so good for him.”

TBR’s View:
White will now be on the radar of Spurs fans following back-to-back displays in pre-season and Mourinho has acknowledged his talent, but it seems like he may have to wait a little longer for a full first-team debut.
It’s often been a criticism of the Portuguese manager throughout his career that he doesn’t give young players a platform into the first-team, but that can be a tad harsh and he’s certainly got his eye on the rising stars at Spurs.
The north London club have Harry Winks and Harry Kane as shining examples from the last five to six years that there is talent being produced in the academy.
