Jose Mourinho comments on Danny Rose’s omission from Tottenham squad
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has been honest with his comments that defender Danny Rose is not part of the squad, while adding that questions would need to be asked to the player about why he didn’t move on in the summer transfer window.
Spurs have left the 30-year-old out of both their squads for the Premier League and Europa League, with Sergio Reguilon and Ben Davies viewed as the two left-back options ahead of him.
The English left-back was linked with a departure in the summer after falling down the pecking order, with the claiming that he was set to join Serie A club Genoa.
But he’s still on the books with Spurs and Mourinho has spoken about Rose’s situation:
“Danny is not part of our squad. Danny wanted very, very, very much to leave in the January window last season. Why? Because he wanted to play and play and play,” Mourinho said, as quoted by
“So in this moment we had Ben Davies, Ryan Sessegnon and [Sergio] Reguilon. It’s as simple as that. Danny didn’t become part of our plans.
“Then the market, the market, the players make the market, the agents make the player’s market. If he didn’t find any solution that he was happy to move, it’s something you have to ask him.”
TBR’s View:
Rose’s Spurs future is quite clearly at an end now with Mourinho at the helm, especially as his contract at the North London club expires at the end of the season.
His short-term loan spell at Newcastle United in the second half of the last campaign proved that his standards have slipped and he’s not the player that was once so instrumental under Mauricio Pochettino.
He needs to try find a solution by the time the January window comes around and his agent should be reaching out to find suitors.
