Jose Enrique has urged Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong before the transfer window shuts next week.

The Dutch international has been at odds with his club for a while now. Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move to sign him this summer, and Barca have even reportedly told de Jong to go and join the Red Devils ().

The 25-year-old, however, has absolutely no interest in joining Erik Ten Hag’s side.

That could open the door for other clubs to make a move for de Jong this summer, and Enrique believes Liverpool should launch a bid to sign him immediately.

Liverpool have been awful this season. Nobody would’ve predicted the Reds to start the campaign without a win in their first three league games, but that’s exactly what has happened.

Many believe the biggest reason why Liverpool have looked so bad is their midfield. Lack of quality options in the middle of the park have always been an issue for the Reds, but it’s now really hurting them.

The game against Manchester United on Monday really exposed Liverpool’s midfield, and they simply have to do something about it before the window shuts. Enrique has a ‘perfect’ solution.

Addressing rumours that Manchester United have given up on de Jong, the Spaniard claimed in an : “He will be a perfect midfielder for us. What a player! Let’s move for him LFC.”

Barcelona signed de Jong for £65 million from Ajax in 2019 (). The Dutch international has been a fantastic player for the Catalans, having made over 140 appearances for the club over the last three years.

Sadly, de Jong is no longer wanted at the Camp Nou. The Spanish giants are desperate to get rid of him this summer, which is why Manchester United tried ever so hard to sign him.

De Jong didn’t want to move to Old Trafford, but interest from Liverpool could easily turn his head. The Reds, despite what has happened over the last three weeks, are one of the best clubs in the world and are managed by one of the top managers on the planet.

With their midfield looking really poor at the moment, a move for de Jong would make a lot of sense. However, whether Klopp will give it a go in the coming days remains to be seen.
