Jordan Pickford says player Chelsea sold for £35m is ‘ridiculously good’
Jordan Pickford has been ranking and rating some of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history.
Pickford knows a thing or two about what it takes to be a great Premier League goalie. After all, he’s been playing at the top level for a long time now.
There’s an argument to make that Pickford is among England’s best ever goalkeepers, but when discussing the best goalkepeers in Premier League history, the Everton ace has reserved some special praise for one player in particular.
Indeed, Pickford named Petr Cech as one of the best goalkeepers he’s ever seen in the Premier League, but he also reserved praise for Thibaut Courtois, the man who would eventually replace Cech at Chelsea.
Indeed, Pickford says that Courtois was a ridiculously good goalkeeper during his time at Chelsea.

Jordan Pickford hails Thibaut Courtois
Pickford was asked to choose between Courtois and Petr Cech when speaking to SuperSport.
The goalkeeper didn’t find it easy to make this decision, and while he ultimately edged for Cech, he says that Courtois is a ridiculously good goalkeeper too.
Pickford has been linked to Chelsea in the past too, and two of his favourite ever goalies are Stamford Bridge legends.
“Courtois or Petr Cech?” Pickford was asked.
“Oh I’ll change now and I’ll go for Petr Cech, but I think that Courtois was ridiculously good,” Pickford said.
Pickford also made some interesting choices when comparing other Premier League goalkeepers.
Question | Jordan Pickford’s answer |
David Seaman or Shay Given | David Seaman |
David Seaman or Edwin van der Sar | Edwin van der Sar |
Edwin van der Sar or Tim Howard | Edwin van der Sar |
Edwin van der Sar or Thibaut Courtois | Thibaut Courtois |
Thibaut Courtois or Hugo Lloris | Thibaut Courtois |
Thibaut Courtois or Peter Schmeichel | Thibaut Courtois |
Thibaut Courtois or David De Gea | Thibaut Courtois |
Thibaut Courtois or Petr Cech | Petr Cech |
Courtois compared to Petr Cech
Cech and Courtois are two of the most successful goalkeepers in Premier League history, and it’s interesting to compare the two players’ stats.
Courtois, of course, spent less time at Chelsea than Cech, and the numbers here make for very interesting reading.
Petr Cech | Thibaut Courtois | |
494 | Games | 154 |
393 | Goals conceded | 152 |
228 | Clean sheets | 58 |
0.8 | Goals conceded per game | 0.99 |
46% | Clean sheet percentage | 38% |
In his pomp, it would appear that Pickford is right, Cech was better than Courtois.
Of course, Courtois replaced Cech at Chelsea, but that may have something to do with the fact that the Belgian is a decade younger than the Blues legend.
Both men would go on to have successful careers away from Stamford Bridge too.
Cech would join Arsenal and win an FA Cup. Cech actually still watches Arsenal games to this day.
Meanwhile Courtois is still Real Madrid’s number one after joining Los Blancos for £35m, and he has won two Champions League titles since arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu.
As Pickford says, these two goalkeepers are a pair of the best to ever do it in the Premier League.
