Trent Alexander-Arnold has confirmed that he is leaving Liverpool.

The Englishman’s future has been up in the air for several months now, and there was a feeling that he would depart at the end of his contract.

Real Madrid have been interested in Alexander-Arnold for over a year, and all signs point towards a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Alexander-Arnold confirmed his decision on social media, and some of his past teammates, including Jordan Henderson, have sent him a message.

Liverpool were at risk of losing three of their biggest players at the turn of the year.

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold had all entered the final months of their deals, and there was no guarantee that any of them would extend their contracts.

Richard Hughes and Arne Slot managed to convince Salah and Van Dijk to stay, and the two veterans have penned new deals at the club.

Alexander-Arnold, however, has decided to move on to try a new adventure, and his decision was announced on Monday.

“After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season,” he wrote in an emotional farewell post.

Henderson replied on Instagram: “What a journey! Thank you for everything! Everyone knows what the club means to you, and your legacy will live forever. The scouser in our team!! Good luck with the next chapter! We will all be supporting you.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright commented: “Written yourself into the history of your childhood club. Beautiful. All the best, wishing you and your family nothing but success.”

Dejan Lovren said: “What incredible journey you had with this amazing club. Be proud of yourself. You gave your best. Well done!”

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool career by the numbers

There are still three games left in the Premier League this season, and Alexander-Arnold will get a chance to say goodbye to Liverpool fans.

It will surely be an emotional moment for the defender, and it remains to be seen what kind of reception he will get from the Anfield faithful.

We hope it will be a good one because Alexander-Arnold performed brilliantly for the Reds for several years and won numerous trophies.

Time will tell how Alexander-Arnold will be remembered by Liverpool supporters, but nobody can deny that he gave his all for the club.

Real Madrid will be a completely different challenge for the defender, and it will be interesting to see how he fares there.
