Jonjoe Kenny posts on Instagram after leaving Everton for Celtic, players respond
Jonjoe Kenny has posted on Instagram after leaving Everton on loan to join Scottish champions Celtic until the end of the season, following a difficult season in which he has struggled to get game time – and Mason Holgate has responded.
Kenny, 23, has managed just 77 minutes of Premier League football during 2020-21 under Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian boss has preferred using Holgate, Seamus Coleman, Alex Iwobi or even summer signing Ben Godfrey in that position.
That is despite Kenny shining in the Bundesliga for Schalke last season, having a hand in five goals during his 34 appearances for the German outfit throughout 2019-20. He comes in as Celtic replace one of their January departures.
Jeremie Frimpong has left to move to the Bundesliga himself, securing an £11.5million transfer to Bayer Leverkusen – and Kenny is seen as the Dutch youth international’s replacement. Kenny posted on Instagram after a move was confirmed as official.
Celtic were busy on deadline day, as they also sanctioned the exit of Oliver Ntcham to Marseille. That move has since seen Marseille manager Andre Villas-Boas offer his resignation, as he did not want to sign the ex-Manchester City star.
Everton defender Holgate responded in the comments, with a two-word verdict on £15,000-a-week () Kenny’s exit.
