Jonjoe Kenny may need January loan after Ancelotti’s latest Everton curve ball
Carlo Ancelotti threw quite the curve ball at the weekend, starting Alex Iwobi as a right wing-back for Everton against Fulham.
The Nigerian was brought in to cover for the injured Seamus Coleman, with Ben Godfrey taking up a place on the right of a three-man defence.

The Italian used the wing-backs system on a few occasions last season, but Sunday was the first time he’s rolled it out in 2020/21.
Everton almost threw the three points away, but the formation ultimately got the job done, and Iwobi was actually one of the Toffees’ best players on the day.
He’s been criticised a lot during his time at Goodison Park, but he looked quite impressive at Craven Cottage.
But his showing will have come as a bit of a blow to Jonjoe Kenny, who travelled and was available for selection but didn’t make the final matchday squad.
TBR’s view – January loan pending?
For Schalke last term, £15,000-a-week star Kenny () did actually play as a right wing-back a few times, so to miss out yesterday will have been a frustration.

The 23-year-old has made just four appearances this term, but is clearly down in the pecking order.
Given Ben Godfrey’s ability to fill in at right-back, it would not be a surprise to see the star head somewhere on loan in January, which is probably something he needs at this point.
The player surely won’t be content sitting on the bench after playing week in, week out last season, and now that Iwobi has proved himself as another option, an exit could be on the cards.
