Jonathan Woodgate confirms interest in Tottenham youngster Jack Clarke

Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate had admitted interest in Tottenham Hotspur youngster Jack Clarke.

The 19-year-old recently returned to Spurs after hardly featuring for Leeds United in the first half of the 2019/20 season.

Clarke was bought by Tottenham last summer, but was supposed to spend the entire season at Elland Road.

But the north Londoners called him back having seen how little he was playing, and he is now expected to head out on loan again.

Several Championship teams have been mentioned, with one of those being Boro.

Former Spurs defender Woodgate said (): “I really like Jack Clarke.

“He’s a really, really top player, but he’s a Spurs player at the minute. I do like Jack Clarke, but are we going to get him? I don’t think so. But he’s a good, good player.”

TBR’s view – Tottenham must get it right

If Clarke is to have first-team involvement in 2019/20 then they must get his next loan move right.

His season so far has been a frustration, and it’s vital he gets regular game time in the second half of 2019/20.

Whether Boro is the next club for him remains to be seen – having just brought in Patrick Roberts on loan perhaps the Riverside Stadium is not the right place for Clarke.
