Rangers defender Jon Flanagan has admitted it’s been tough being on the fringes at Ibrox recently, but insists he views his long-term future at Ibrox and is determined to earn a new contract.
The 26-year-old moved to Ibrox last summer on a two-year deal and he’s not had the easiest of first seasons.
He’s made 23 appearances across all competitions this campaign for the Scottish giants, but his start against Hearts at the weekend was his first league appearance in 2019.
The full-back has slipped down the pecking order recently, but got the chance against Hearts at left-back due to the absences of Andy Halliday (suspended) and Borna Barisic (injured).
Flanagan has explained he’s adamant to remain with the Light Blues despite his lack of opportunities in recent months and even mentioned a new deal.
“I want to be here, I want to be a part of it, I want to get a new contract and be here for many years.”
“I’m 100 per cent wanting this. It’s been tough being out of it, everyone wants to play every game.”

TBR’s View:
Flanagan has not quite made the impact in Scotland he may have wanted and many may have forgotten he was even at the club until the weekend.
The Englishman reminded a few in the win over Hearts that he’s still an option and it sounds like he will be around next season.
He’s a useful option for manager Steven Gerrard given his versatility to play in either full-back area, but captain James Tavernier has locked down the right-back slot in recent years.
Flanagan is certainly showing the right kind of attitude that should get Rangers fans on boars and all may not be over for him yet.
