Joleon Lescott questions Wolves decision with Morgan Gibbs-White
Joleon Lescott has claimed that the game against Braga changed when Morgan Gibbs-White was substituted off.
The central midfielder was drafted into the starting XI on Thursday night for the Europa League group stage fixture at home to Braga.
Gibbs-White, 19, showed some quality moments in possession and looked one of the most creative attacking threats at Molineux.
He was taken off midway through the second-half, with Braga going on to score through Ricardo Horta shorty after and secure a 1-0 win.
Ex-Wolves defender Lescott has highlighted the error from manager Nuno Espirito Santo to take off academy graduate Gibbs-White in the European clash.
“The game changed when Gibbs-White went off,”
“Him and Neves found a routine and a pattern of play together. Then all of a sudden he goes off and that rhythm of the game that Wolves attached to their play dissolved.”
TBR’s View:
Gibbs-White was one of the more promising individuals for Wolves against Braga and with hindsight you can say it was a mistake to withdraw him.
The game was open for either team to win going into the final 20 minutes, but it was the Portuguese visitors who grabbed three points and started the group phase in perfect fashion.
Gibbs-White would have had an assist to his name if teammate striker Patrick Cutrone had finished a chance after his pass.
The teenage midfielder is certainly not the finished article yet, but he was definitely offering more going forward than Leander Dendoncker from the centre of the park.
