Joleon Lescott picks Aston Villa star Jack Grealish over Tottenham’s Dele Alli

Joleon Lescott has made the decision to pick Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish over Tottenham counterpart Dele Alli when selecting a fantasy team.

Lescott, alongside Sky Sports pundit John Hartson, was tasked with naming a Premier League XI using only players outside of the current top six in the table.

That meant that players from Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers were unavailable to select.

Lescott has explained there was only room for one attacking midfielder in the XI, with the Villa man getting the nod over the Spurs star.

Grealish has been in brilliant individual form so far this campaign, with nine goals and eight assists across all competitions.

The 24-year-old has been a shining light for a Villa team currently sat inside the relegation places, while football is suspended due to coronavirus.

Alli, 23, hasn’t quite been at his sharpest this term and has been a part of a Spurs side that has changed manager from Mauricio Pochettino to Jose Mourinho.

But the creative playmaker has still weighed in with nine goals and five assists across all competitions this season.

“I think Jack Grealish might get in the team of the year never mind [a team of the year excluding the top six clubs],”

“There is an argument for Dele Alli but we can only have one attacking midfielder and we went for Jack Grealish who deserves his place as I said. I think there is an argument for him to be in the team of the year

TBR’s View:

There isn’t much to pick between the English pair based off this season, which is why both have to be firmly on the radar of England manager Gareth Southgate despite the fact the European Championships have been pushed back to 2021.

Grealish has perhaps had the greater influence this campaign on his own team and his return to the top-flight has proven what an individual talent he is.

But Alli has already achieved so much in his short career so far and proven himself on the elite stage, something which is quite often overlooked by spectators.

The Spurs ace already has 37 senior caps for England, while Grealish is still waiting for his first call-up.
