Joleon Lescott is a big fan of Everton signing Alex Iwobi

Ex-Everton defender Joleon Lescott believes his former side have done a great piece of business in signing Alex Iwobi this summer.

The Toffees signed the attacker from Arsenal in the transfer window and he could end up costing £34million ().

He’s one of several summer recruits at Goodison Park during the summer, as manager Marco Silva looks to build a team that can kick on.

Iwobi was directly involved in 15 goals in 51 games for Arsenal last season, but wasn’t a regular starter and has exited for a fresh challenge.

The Nigeria international is yet to make his debut for Everton despite being on the bench for the win over Watford and will be hoping for a chance on Friday night against Aston Villa.

He is a winger blessed with tremendous pace and trickery, which is why Lescott is tipping him to become a fans’ favourite.

“I’m excited for Everton this season, I think they’ve spent well in areas that they needed to,”

‘I’m thinking they are the next team to break into the top tier, possibly this season. I’m a big fan of Iwobi. I’m surprised Arsenal let him go.

“Iwobi seems to play with good energy and desire that fans want to see regardless. He seems to be running at his maximum every time he gets the ball, which will only hold him as a fans’ favourite at Everton.”

Iwobi is certainly going to inject some extra quality to Everton in wide areas and it will be no surprise to see him do well on Merseyside.

The dazzling attacker showed glimpses of his quality in an Arsenal shirt and has proven he can be a hit in the Premier League.

He needs to search for consistency now in his game, but he’s still aged just 23 and the best years are surely just around the corner for him.
