John Terry singles out importance of Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn
Aston Villa’s assistant head coach John Terry has given a glowing verdict on the quality of John McGinn, who has been in brilliant form this season.
McGinn moved to Villa Park back in 2018 and was part of a team that secured promotion from the Championship.
The 26-year-old looked a natural last year during his first campaign in the English top-flight, while this season he’s a mainstay in a Villa team that are eyeing a potential push for a European finish.
He is a left-footer that plays a box-to-box central midfield position and is so crucial to Dean Smith’s side.
The Scotland international has chipped in with five assists in 18 league games this season to highlight his attacking influence, but defensively he’s equally as effective alongside Douglas Luiz in the centre of the park.
Terry has claimed that McGinn is one of the individuals that goes under the radar.
“He is doing the kind of holding role with Douglas Luiz where they do the scrappy stuff really well,”
“Really, John is a number eight who wants to be arriving in the box and scoring goals, but we are asking him to do something a little bit different that he is not used to.
“But he does it so well.
“He is one of those players every team has who goes under the radar, which from a Villa point of view we are happy with because we know just how valuable he is within our squad.
“To me, he is one of the most important players in the group.”

TBR’s View:
If McGinn is underrated by neutral Premier League fans, that’s certainly not the case when it comes to Villa supporters.
The midfield has been a fan favourite since the day he arrived from Hibernian.
He’s become such a key player for the Midlands giants in all areas and his full committed approach is exactly what fans love to see, plus it embodies the philosophy of Smith’s team this year.
