John Terry reacts, as report shares something Antonio Conte is doing behind the scenes at Tottenham
Antonio Conte has reportedly told Tottenham’s players they are overweight, and John Terry has responded by remembering his time under Conte.
Conte told Tottenham’s players after the 3-2 win over Vitesse that some were overweight and it needed to change.
Conte is said to have told the players he does not want to see anyone overweight again. He also believes there are a ‘handful’ not in shape.
Under Jose Mourinho and then Nuno Espirito Santo, Spurs played pragmatically. It meant the players were running less, holding shape.
“He said this was the last time he ever wanted to see overweight players, levels are unacceptable. He believes a handful of players are overweight.”
But under Conte, they will be pressing. Terry responded to the reports, saying he was the fittest of his career under the new Spurs gaffer.
Terry on Conte reports: Tottenham will become a team to fear
Under Conte, Chelsea were the best side in the Premier League – winning the 2016-17 title. Can Conte really take Tottenham to that level?
Well, he is giving them every chance and that includes enormously improving their fitness. Just like he did with Terry, and Chelsea.
Getting Spurs back to optimum fitness, starting with this fortnight’s international break, will at least give Spurs a fighting chance.
But ultimately, he has joined a club mid-season for one of the first times in his career. It is going to be hard to improve the player’s fitness now.
