John Terry, Luis Garcia and Liverpool players send messages to Reds star on Instagram

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk posted an emotional message on Instagram after a return from injury last night, which prompted a wave of positive messages.

Van Dijk, 30, has been sidelined for nine months with a serious knee problem. However, he played his first senior minutes since October in yesterday’s 4-3 pre-season defeat to Hertha Berlin in a friendly.

The 30-year-old made his comeback off the bench, along with Joe Gomez, who’s also been missing with a long-term injury.

Jurgen Klopp’s side still have another couple of pre-season matches before the Premier League season starts, so perhaps the Dutchman can get a little closer to full fitness with more minutes on the pitch.

John Terry and Luis Garcia, who were both involved in the fierce Chelsea-Liverpool rivalry years ago, both replied to Van Dijk on . Terry is not a favourite with Reds supporters, but the ex-Chelsea centre-half has great respect for one of the modern day elite defenders.

Also, several of Van Dijk’s teammates posted messages.

Can Van Dijk recapture best form at Liverpool after return?

For Van Dijk, it’s likely to take a while getting up to full speed after such a long injury lay-off. However, everyone wants to see if he can recapture the form that made him the best centre-backs around.

He’s already achieved so much in a Liverpool shirt, but the 30-year-old should still have plenty of years left.

It feels like the Merseyside club have a real point to prove after dropping a long way off the pace last season.

Everyone receives a major lift though when Van Dijk plays at Anfield. His return is certainly something that will frighten rivals Manchester City.
