John Terry delivers Declan Rice and Mikel Arteta verdict after Arsenal’s 2-1 Champions League win vs Real Madrid

Declan Rice and Mikel Arteta would be over the moon after Arsenal won 2-1 against Real Madrid and qualified to the Champions League semi-finals to lock horns with Paris Saint-Germain next.

The Arsenal duo had plenty to prove against the Spanish giants before the tie even kicked off — with all eyes on how Rice would fare against Jude Bellingham amongst others in midfield and Arteta’s tactical setup.

However, Rice upstaged Bellingham and Real Madrid’s midfield while Mikel Arteta outcoached Carlo Ancelotti over two legs as the Gunners won 5-1 on aggregate.

Ancelotti’s job at Real Madrid is under threat as apart from the aforementioned pair, the visitors only shone more light on what has been a bitterly disappointing campaign for the champions of Europe.

But from Arsenal’s standpoint, they rightly earned the plaudits after beating Real Madrid as John Terry had his say on both Declan Rice and Mikel Arteta.

John Terry hails Declan Rice and Mikel Arteta after Real Madrid vs Arsenal

John Terry posted an story to highlight how key Rice and Mikel Arteta were for Arsenal as they conquered Real Madrid, initially lauding the midfielder: “Declan Rice, what a performance mate.”

“Dominated the midfield in both legs.”

John Terry is Rice’s favourite player of all time and he would appreciate his praise, as would Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who the Chelsea legend praised for his approach against Arsenal: “Great win and performance from Arsenal. Arteta got it spot on.”

“Pressed them and got after them and didn’t just sit back.”

What Declan Rice and Mikel Arteta said about each other after Real Madrid vs Arsenal

It is hard to disagree with John Terry as Rice and Arteta were arguably two of the biggest reasons why Arsenal vanquished Real Madrid at both the Emirates Stadium and the Santiago Bernabeu.

The pair might have had a few sceptics during their time in North London but they surely must have silenced their detractors after Wednesday night.

Mikel Arteta lauded Rice, as he said via journalist Chris Cowlin: “Tonight he was immense.

“He turned the game around in moments when the game was 50-50. “

“He made a difference in the tie.”

However, Declan Rice revealed he has full faith in Arsenal as a club and Mikel Arteta as well, telling CBS Sports: “It’s massive. I sensed it before I signed for the club that we were on an upward trajectory as a club.”

“I felt it and the players we got and the direction we want to go in, it’s been tough in the Premier League because we lost our last year on a point [two] and this year, it’s slipped away from us.”

“But in this competition, we’ve done amazingly well and this club is going to do special things over the next few years.”

“We fully believe it, we have full trust in this manager, he’s unbelievable and we have players like him [Myles Lewis-Skelly] coming through, Ethan [Nwaneri], other young lads who really want it as well.”
