John Terry cannot help himself but tease Tottenham on Instagram, as Villa win

Aston Villa came from behind to beat Tottenham Hotspur in North London on Wednesday evening, striking a huge dent in Tottenham’s pursuit of Europa League football – and John Terry has teased Spurs on Instagram.

Spurs knew that they needed to win to maintain their sixth-place spot, with the likes of West Ham and other sides breathing down their neck. Liverpool beat Burnley, and Jurgen Klopp’s side are now well out of sight.

Steven Bergwijn scored a brilliant opener for Spurs – his first of the season, after interim boss Ryan Mason gave the Netherlands international a start over Gareth Bale. But a disastrous display from Sergio Reguilon saw Spurs lose.

Firstly, the ex-Madrid defender sliced a low Villa cross into the top corner of his own net – catching captain Hugo Lloris by surprise. A bizarre own goal, that really summed up Tottenham’s season – shooting themselves in the foot.

Then, Reguilon gave the ball away in his own final third and Villa capitalised, as England striker Ollie Watkins made it 16 goals for the season – 14 of which have come in the Premier League. Spurs are now in seventh place.

It means that should the season finish now, they would be in the Europa Conference League – with West Ham coming from behind to beat West Brom and climb to sixth. Terry teased Spurs: “Different stadium, same old story.”
