John Obi Mikel says Liam Delap has already really clicked with one Chelsea player
Chelsea have already been busy in this summer transfer window.
Indeed, the Blues have already made a blockbuster signing in the shape of Liam Delap, while Jamie Gittens is close to joining the west London club too.
Delap is already making his mark at Chelsea over at the Club World Cup, and he opened his account on Wednesday morning against ES Tunis.
Delap netted his first goal in blue on Wednesday, and Enzo Fernandez had a big part to play in this goal.
Speaking on DAZN, John Obi Mikel has been discussing Delap’s performance, and he says he’s already spotted a blossoming relationship between the striker and Fernandez.

John Obi Mikel hails Liam Delap and Enzo Fernandez connection
Mikel hailed Fernandez for his recent performances for Chelsea before noting how he’s playing alongside Delap.
The pundit says that while Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have been the defining partnership at Chelsea in recent times, Fernandez and Delap have something exciting developing.
Fernandez has been brilliant this season, and he deserves all of the plaudits coming his way.
“He is a guy in form the way he has been playing this season, scoring goals, creating chances, he has been doing everything. It was good to see him playing really well,” Mikel said about Fernandez,” Mikel said.
“We talk about the partnership with Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson, but now it looks like there’s a bit of a bromance between Enzo Fernandez and Liam Delap.”
Enzo Fernandez’s most prolific partnerships
Fernandez is growing into a greater creative force in the Chelsea midfield, and he could well be set to strike up a career-defining partnership with Delap.
Interestingly, Fernandez hasn’t had all that many incredible partnerships throughout his career so far, with his joint-goal participation numbers being rather low with most of his teammates.
Enzo Fernandez’s most prolific partnerships | Joint-goal participations |
Cole Palmer | 7 |
Julian Alvarez | 6 |
Lionel Messi | 5 |
Pedro Neto | 4 |
Goncalo Ramos | 4 |
Cole Palmer is statistically Fernandez’s best teammate, while Julian Alvarez isn’t far behind the England star.
With Delap having a brilliant blend of strength, pace and finishing ability, he could be the perfect sort of player for Fernandez to build a connection with.
Don’t be shocked if this pairing leads Chelsea to success in years to come.
