John Obi Mikel says ‘99% of the Chelsea fans’ will agree one player won’t win them trophies, ‘the owners know’
Chelsea will face PSG in the 2025 Club World Cup final this weekend, but John Obi Mikel isn’t confident about one star helping them lift the trophy.
Enzo Maresca’s side booked their place in the showpiece with a 2-0 win over Brazilian outfit Fluminense on July 8.
A near £30m prize is now on the line for Chelsea and the current Champions League holders on Sunday.
PSG star Goncalo Ramos has praised Chelsea ahead of the final, while former player John Obi Mikel has doubled down on his comments regarding one Blues star when looking ahead to the clash this week.

John Obi Mikel says Chelsea need to replace Robert Sanchez
John Obi Mikel criticised Robert Sanchez after his performance in the semi-final earlier this week.
Now, the ex-midfielder has been discussing the Spaniard once more when speaking to talkSPORT.
Mikel was adamant Chelsea need to sign a new goalkeeper, saying fans will agree he’s not the man to help win the West London outfit trophies.
He said: “I think obviously the goalkeeper situation is a situation that I’ve talked about, and also a lot of the Chelsea fans can agree that we need another top goalkeeper because Sanchez is not doing it.
“The goalkeeper situation is a situation that needs to be sorted out. We can’t go into the new season with Sanchez. I’m sorry but, I’m sorry. I’m sure that 99% of the Chelsea fans will agree with me that Sanchez is not the goalkeeper that will win us trophies. Definitely not.”
On Sanchez’s performances at the Club World Cup, he added: “So far so good in this tournament, he’s made mistakes but [they] haven’t led to a goal yet and we’ve been lucky. Obviously, we’ve been scoring goals, defended well so he’s not really been under pressure so much.”
Chelsea goalkeeper transfer update
The Nigerian went on to say that he’s sure the owners are aware they need a new goalkeeper.
He continued: “But going into a season where we have the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and all of this, we need a top, top goalkeeper.
“You’ve seen the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, they have top goalkeepers. So we need to, that area of the pitch needs to be sorted out, and I’m sure the owners know that.”
The Blues have been trying to bring another shot-stopper to the club this summer, with Chelsea making Mike Maignan a target prior to the Club World Cup getting underway.
AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri wants to keep the Frenchman, but TBR sources revealed earlier this week Maignan is still wanted by the Blues, and Maresca has made it clear to the club’s hierarchy he wants to bring in a new shot-stopper.
