Aston Villa captain John McGinn shares what he’s seeing from Marcus Rashford ‘every day’ since his Manchester United loan exit
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is enjoying a fruitful loan spell at Aston Villa since swapping Old Trafford for Villa Park until the end of the season.
Rashford joined Aston Villa in the winter transfer window and he has made 16 competitive appearances in claret and blue, registering three goals and six assists to date.
As one of Manchester United’s homegrown stars that has also gone on to play for England, Rashford has been in the spotlight for most of his career.
Rashford wasn’t having the best time at Old Trafford prior to his loan switch, but it looks as though he has got his career firmly back on track.
Villa teammate John McGinn has now spoken about how Rashford has been like behind the scenes at Bodymoor Heath and also shared his hopes for the striker’s future.

Aston Villa captain John McGinn says Marcus Rashford is ‘first-class on and off the pitch’
McGinn, speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Villa’s Premier League meeting with Manchester City, revealed how Rashford now has a smile on his face “every day”.
The Villa captain also urged people to ignore the negative press around Rashford as he described the forward as “first-class on and off the pitch”.
McGinn said of Rashford: “He’s used to being in the spotlight, used to being under pressure, and I think in these games he’s thrived under it, he’s really enjoying it.
“It’s nice to see him every day with a smile on his face – I think it’s very easy to look at the negative press that surrounds Marcus and has done for a while and be judged by that.
“But you judge with your own eyes, you judge who is about the place to people, and I must say he’s been first class, both on and off the pitch.
“Very good guy, humble, hardworking, all the things you read that you don’t expect to see – but in an Aston Villa jersey he seems to be thriving.”
When it came to the subject of Rashford’s future, McGinn said: “Hopefully… I don’t know what will happen beyond the summer, but hopefully until the summer that keeps going and he keeps showing us what a good player is and a good person.”
Whether Aston Villa could sign Marcus Rashford permanently
Rashford is still under contract at Man United until 2028, even if Villa had an agreement in place over a fee to potentially trigger a permanent move to Villa Park.
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey recently confirmed that both Villa and Rashford are ‘relatively’ happy with the situation and talks are due to take place.
However, as is the case for most interested clubs, Rashford’s wages could prove problematic, so this is something Villa will have to consider.
Should he sign for Villa, Rashford would undoubtedly become their top earner based on his current package, even if he were to agree to a slight drop in wages.
