John Kennedy says Celtic have a player who’s ‘very influential’ and has become really important
Celtic interim manager John Kennedy has waxed lyrical about David Turnbull, suggesting the Hoops midfielder has done enough to win a place in the Scotland squad for the Euros.
The 21-year-old is one of the best young players in the country, his displays for Motherwell putting him on Celtic’s radar long-term and eventually culminating in a switch to Parkhead.
Even though the Bhoys have endured a dismal season, Turnbull has been one of the few players to emerge from the 2020-21 campaign with plenty of credit.
Turnbull has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season – including 25 Premiership starts – and has registered nine goals and seven assists.
According to Whoscored – via the – he is Europe’s third best player in key passes at present, behind only Ajax’s Dusan Tadic and OH Leuven’s Xavier Mercier.
Speaking ahead of Celtic’s Scottish Cup trip to Rangers, Kennedy spoke highly of Turnbull and tipped him to get a call-up to the senior side.
“David is in good form, he’s playing very well and has been very influential in the team,” Kennedy is quoted by the as saying.”He’s made himself an important player in our team.
“It’s a position Steve (Clarke) probably has a lot of options in terms of Scotland, there are good players in that area of the pitch.
“But David can only concentrate on what he can affect and that’s here in terms of how he trains every day and goes in and performs in the games.
“All he can do is pose the question to Steve and he’ll be the one to make that decision nearer the time.”
