John Hartson and Liam Henderson react, as Celtic youngster opens senior account

Ewan Henderson scored his first goal for Celtic on Thursday night as Ange Postecoglou’s side beat Spanish outfit Real Betis in a Europa League dead rubber – and both John Hartson and Liam Henderson have responded.

Postecoglou named a much-weakened side to face Betis on Thursday night at Parkhead, with Nir Bitton captaining the Hoops. But it did not look as if Celtic were struggling to match their La Liga opponents.

Stephen Welsh opened the scoring after just three minutes – and the Hoops survived until 69 minutes, when a shot ricocheted off the post and hit Scott Bain before dropping back over the line.

A crazy few minutes saw Celtic go 2-1 up through substitute Henderson, after Mikey Johnston did superbly down the right. Then, Betis made it 2-2 on 74 minutes with Borja Iglesias keeping his cool when through on goal.

Liel Abada’s glorious pace got Celtic a penalty, and substitute David Turnbull finished it superbly. Celtic won 3-2, securing third place. Both Hartson, and his brother Liam, had praise for goalscorer Henderson.

Hartson and Henderson: Does Ewan have a future at Celtic?

Liam’s younger brother was afforded only his first minutes of the season on Thursday night, in what was only his third inclusion in the senior squad all season. Adam Montgomery has overtaken him.

Indeed, the competition of Jota, Liel Abada, James Forrest and Liam Shaw is certainly heavy. Now 21, he has only played 11 times for the first team and his contract ends in June. He could be off, soon.
