Aston Villa have parted ways with Dean Smith and the club are now on the lookout for the next Villa manager.
Smith got Villa back into the Premier League and enjoyed a fine season last year after narrowly avoiding the drop in the 2019/20 season. However, things have gone awry this term and Villa are struggling at the wrong end of the table again.

Whoever is the next Villa manager will have a squad that’s been heavily invested in. Smith had already spent a good chunk of money before bringing in a number of new faces following the £100m sale of Jack Grealish in the summer.
Naturally, there has been plenty of reaction to Dean Smith losing his job at Villa today. Among those to comment and offer their thoughts is former Villa manager, John Gregory.
Taking to , Gregory was full of praise for Smith and insisted the now ex-Villa manager deserves plenty of credit.
Craig Shakespeare is also thought to have left his role at the club. A number of early names, including Steven Gerrard, have been mentioned as potential successors.
TBR’s View: Smith great for Villa but a change was needed
Villa’s board have taken the plunge here and made a big decision before things got out of hand. For that, you have to give them credit.
However, who the next Villa manager will be is a huge call for the club and its owners. They have to get it right and simply cannot afford to be involved in a relegation battle.
As Gregory says, Smith will be remembered well at Villa. But the club now must move on, and move on quickly.
