John Arne Riise offers theory as to why Duncan Ferguson substituted Moise Kean
Everton’s temporary manager Duncan Ferguson caused a stir on Sunday, when he substituted striker Moise Kean having only just brought him on.
The Italian teenager was brought on for Bernard in the second half but was then replaced 18 minutes later by Oumar Niasse.

On leaving the field, Kean then made his way to the Old Trafford tunnel after being blanked by Ferguson.
After the game, the Scot tried to downplay the situation, insisting he only took Kean off to kill time.
The move has not gone down well with the majority of Everton fans, and it was also wound a fair few neutrals up.
Many have tried to fathom why Ferguson did what he did, and arguably one of the most sensible suggestions came from John Arne Riise.

He believes there was more to 47-year-old merely taking Kean off to waste time.
: “I think Duncan is doing too much to show that he wants the job – he’s overdoing it.
Doing this with him, all the celebrations, it’s a little bit too much. But that’s who he is and maybe they love him for it.”
TBR’s view – Needless from Ferguson?
It seemed liked very harsh management from Ferguson, who will know how hard Kean has had it at the club so far.
To haul him off like that, and then claim it was to kill time, is a bit of an insult.

Everton fans may not like to admit it but perhaps ex-Liverpool man Riise has a point, and he just wanted to stamp some authority down – to be seen as a figure who is in control and isn’t afraid to make bold decisions.
And maybe he felt that such a move really would enhance his chances of landing the gig permanently.
