John Arne Riise criticises Duncan Ferguson over treatment of Moise Kean
Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has criticised Duncan Ferguson’s handling of Moise Kean during yesterday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United.
On Riise berated Ferguson for failing to consider the human element of man-managing a teenager who is struggling to adapt to a new country after he subbed him on and off again at Old Trafford.
He : “He doesn’t even shake his hand. That’s the worst thing you can do for a young boy, he’s absolutely destroyed that young boy. You don’t do that to young players. There’s a human part.
“He’s not having the best time and then the manager does that to him. Some people love that, but it’s the wrong way to do it. Duncan’s doing too much to show how much he wants this job. It’s a little bit too much. At least talk to him and explain.”

TBR’s View – Being subbed on and then off has always been humiliating for any professional
Some Everton fans won’t mind the fact that a player who hasn’t pulled his weight and has been late to team meetings at least twice () has been given a stark reality check.
The likes of Riise feel he should be treated with more care but perhaps Ferguson’s frustration with that lack of professionalism behind the scenes came out in that substitution.
Of course, in the modern game, what Ferguson did is likely to put Kean’s back up, have some fans calling him a dinosaur who is failing to effectively man-manage a talented teenager.
There’s an element of truth on both sides and perhaps Ferguson wouldn’t have been so bold if he was permanent manager, knowing he’d have to build a relationship with Kean throughout the season.
