John Aldridge thinks Jurgen Klopp should drop £34m Liverpool player

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has suggested that Jurgen Klopp should think about dropping Mohamed Salah.

The Reds forward has been sensational for most of his time at Anfield, but has failed to hit his usual heights lately.

Salah has not scored from open play in the league since Liverpool hammered Leeds 6-0 on February 23.

And Aldridge, , says the 29-year-old has not been himself lately.

The Anfield icon claimed that “as great as he is, as much as we love him”, Salah would be dropped based on form.

Salah is also yet to sign a contract extension and Aldridge believes that may be playing a part in his lack of form.

“If you’re going by form, Mo wouldn’t get in the team,” he told Sky Sports News.

“As good as he is, as great as he is, as much as we love him, on present form he’s struggling.

“People might say he’s had his head turned but his contract situation doesn’t help.

“He hasn’t scored from open play for six weeks and he’s just not himself on the pitch.”

Liverpool head to Manchester City for a top-of-the-table Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.

Salah could do with a rest – TBR View

Salah has shown he’s one of the best players in the world this season.

He has routinely pulled rival defences apart and made a mockery of opposition goalkeepers.

However, Salah has also had to deal with an incredibly heavy workload for club and country.

The £34million ace has clocked up appearances for Liverpool and for Egypt in 2021-22.

In addition, Salah has experienced major heartbreak at international level twice in a short space of time.

Senegal beat Egypt on penalties in the Africa Cup of Nations final, then again for World Cup qualification.

As a result, it’s not surprising that he’s now struggling.

Salah could certainly do with a rest, perhaps start a couple of games on the bench.

A fully-fit Salah is an incredible player but at the end of the day, footballers are human and subject to things like fatigue and burnout like everyone.
