John Aldridge names £51m-rated player who ‘fits the bill perfectly’ for Liverpool

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged the Reds to move for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner instead of the likes of Jadon Sancho or Kylian Mbappe, in conversation with the .

Werner has been in superb form this season, netting 27 goals and registering 12 assists in just 36 appearances in all competitions ().

Since joining Leipzig from Stuttgart in the summer of 2016, Werner has claimed an impressive 88 goals and 39 assists in 150 competitive appearances, as well as winning 29 Germany caps with 11 goals scored in the process ().

Crucially, Werner is believed to have a £51million release clause, according to the – a much lower reported fee than the £120million which Sancho is believed to have as a price tag () and the “cut-price” £132million suggested by for Mbappe.

“Liverpool will need another but that one player has to be absolute top drawer,” Aldridge told the .

“For me, there is only one who fits the bill perfectly. That player is Timo Werner. Whenever I have seen him, he looks like the one for the Reds.

“For the prices you hear quoted for players, the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Jadon Sancho, in this climate, Werner seems the ideal option.”

With the football industry expected to take a huge financial blow in wake of the global health crisis and the suspension of competitions, Aldridge is spot on in mentioning this in the context of Liverpool’s potential summer transfer targets.

That said, Werner should not be seen as a ‘cheap’ option by any means – he is lightning-quick, lethal in front of goal and also provides for his teammates, not to mention is a of Jurgen Klopp and by Liverpool’s interest in him.
