John Aldridge has sympathy for ‘tremendous’ 28-year-old Liverpool star

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has told the that he has some sympathy for Sadio Mane and feels he is lacking a bit of belief.

The Reds thrashed Wolves 4-0 on Sunday but the Senegalese forward made it a sixth Premier League game without a goal.

Mane has found the net on five occasions in all competitions this season as he bids to eclipse the 22 goals he scored last season.

The 28-year-old hasn’t been quite as effective during 2020/21 and the challenge for Jurgen Klopp is to get him back to his best.

Aldridge knows all about finding the net for Liverpool and he thinks Mane just needs to believe in himself a bit more.

“I felt a little bit for Sadio Mane who deserved a goal for another tremendous performance and it was a pity the last one was taken off him and given as an own goal.

“He’s playing really well but hasn’t scored in the league since the derby at Goodison and it may just be playing on his mind a touch.

“He seems to have lost a bit of belief in front of goal. If he keeps getting into the positions the goals will flow again soon, I’m sure of it.”

TBR View – Mane form isn’t a cause for concern

The beauty of Klopp’s team is that goals come from all over the park.

On Sunday Joel Matip scored, Mo Salah notched and Gini Wijnaldum also got in on the act.

Although Mane hasn’t been quite so prolific this season, he still brings an awful lot to the team.

Klopp added Diogo Jota in the summer and he has hit the ground running when it comes to scoring goals.

Mane is a bag of tricks on the left flank and the work he does for the team in and around the box shouldn’t go unnoticed.

It won’t be long before the trickster is back on the goal trail.

Form is temporary; class is permanent.
