Joe Rodon posts 11 words on Instagram after his exit from Tottenham is confirmed last night

Defender Joe Rodon has joined French Ligue 1 outfit Rennes on loan from Tottenham Hotspur for the 2022/23 campaign.

Rodon arrived from Swansea during Jose Mourinho’s reign but has struggled to establish himself in the Spurs’ backline for any length of time.

The French side have an option but not an obligation to buy the Welshman at the end of the season for just under £17 million, as per

Rodon will hope to go to the World Cup this year with Wales, and playing regular football is essential if he is to go there and perform to his best.

Rodon joins Rennes on loan

Conte, like Mourinho, has a preference for ready-made players and is going in pursuit of more immediate success at Tottenham.

And if he is not going to give Rodon the games he needs, it makes sense for him to go somewhere he can hope to play the majority of matches.

Across north London, William Saliba benefitted hugely from a Ligue 1 loan spell last season, shining with Marseille as they got into the Champions League spots.

And after his move was confirmed, Rodon posted on his a classy message, wishing Tottenham luck for the season ahead.

Spurs fans will hope that the coming term sees the wait for a trophy come to an end, in Conte’s first full season in charge of the club.

They could also be the side who emerges from the chasing pack to push Manchester City and Liverpool the closest, and of course the Champions League is back too.

Rodon will be watching that from afar, but he has made the move which is right for his career at this stage.
