Joe Rodon admits frustration at Mourinho decision after Spurs move
Joe Rodon has admitted that it was frustrating to not get the chance to play in the Europa League for Spurs last season with Jose Mourinho leaving him out of the squad – .
Rodon made his move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium too late in the summer window to be registered for the group-stages of the competition.
Many would have expected however, to see the 23-year-old added to the squad ahead of the knockout stages.
However, Mourinho decided to leave him out once again. And, , the Portuguese felt that it would be unfair to replace anyone to bring the Wales international in.
This time however, Rodon is in the squad for their Europa Conference League campaign. And he looks set to start in Rennes on Thursday with Spurs facing a little crisis at centre-back.
Ahead of the group-stage opener, the defender shared how disappointed he was not to be involved in continental competition during his first year.
“It was obviously frustrating,” he said, . “I kind of understood – it was for a reason, to adapt me and get me into the group.
“Every player wants to play a lot of games, but sometimes it doesn’t go like that and the best thing I could do was just to keep my head down, keep working hard and wait for my opportunity.”

Rodon will almost definitely start on Thursday. Nuno Espirito Santo cannot call upon the likes of Cristian Romero, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier.
It has been a tough start to the season for the former Swansea man. He was out with injury during the opening weeks.
He made his first appearance of the campaign against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
So Thursday presents a brilliant opportunity for the youngster to prove a point. And he probably needs to make the most of it.
Sanchez started the season superbly. Romero meanwhile, was one of Spurs’ marquee additions in the summer. So Rodon looks to be a fair way down the pecking order.
He missed out on European football last year. This time around however, it could be what makes all the difference.
