Joachim Andersen’s price-tag may push Tottenham, but his wages won’t

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a potential move for Danish defender Joachim Andersen for a number of months now. The talented centre-back has been viewed as a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld, whose future at the club remains shrouded in doubt.

has now been discussing the future of the Sampdoria player. They suggest his asking price and current wages in the piece. Tottenham would have to pay €40 million (£34.5 million) for the player, about the rate for a defender with his talents. That is still slightly more than Tottenham will likely want to pay.

But wages are so often the biggest stumbling block for Spurs.

Tottenham like to keep their wage structure tight and not overpay their stars. It has often seen rumours of unsettled players disappointed at their relatively low pay compared to similar Premier League stars.

that the Dane is currently on just £220,000-a-year, which equates to £4,200-a-week. Tottenham will no doubt need to offer him a pay-rise, but it is very likely Spurs can keep the player in their wage structure with that starting point in negotiations.

The 22-year-old looks like an increasingly promising transfer target for Spurs.
