Jesse Marsch really impressed by Leeds youngster Leif Davis

Jesse Marsch has praised Leif Davis as Leeds United face a headache at left-back in the remaining weeks of pre-season – .

Left-back has been an issue for the Whites for a number of years. Junior Firpo was signed last summer to address those concerns. However, he endured a tough first year at Elland Road.

Firpo did improve towards the end of the campaign. And he was excellent at the start of their first pre-season friendly against Blackpool last week. However, he sustained an injury in that game that ruled him out of the tour to Australia.

That left Davis and Leo Hjelde as the two obvious options for the spot for the next three games. But Marsch explained that Leeds have suffered another injury setback, with Hjelde out of Thursday’s clash with Brisbane Roar.

Marsch noted that Pascal Struijk and Jack Harrison are potential options for the left-back spot. However, judging by his comments, it would appear that Davis is in line to get the nod.

“We’re hopeful that it’s a little bit faster because Junior healed really, really quickly last time after the MCL injury. We’re looking very closely at Leif Davis and we think he’s done really well. We have also other solutions, like Pascal and potentially Jack [Harrison],” he said, .

It did appear that Davis could be on his way out of Leeds. The 22-year-old was loaned to Bournemouth last summer, with the Cherries having an option to buy.

Had Davis done well, Scott Parker’s men would have surely used the option. But obviously, he has now returned to the Leeds fold.

In fairness to Davis, he has been very good whenever he has got the chance for the Whites. So he would not be a terrible understudy for Firpo.

The next few games could provide a massive opportunity. And his performances could have implications on whether Leeds target a new left-back in the final weeks of the window.
