Jesse Marsch hints three players could leave Leeds even though they’ve impressed him in pre-season
Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has provided an update on the future of three first team players, including fan favourite Mateusz Klich.
, and was asked about the future of Klich, Ian Poveda and Helder Costa.
“I think they’ve done a really good job with the uncertainty of the situation, really working hard in pre-season and being part of the group, and then I don’t know, we’ll see how that moves forward,”
Klich was an unused substitute against Cagliari with Marsch giving his entire starting line-up the full 90 minutes in a clear nod towards Leeds’ expected team for their season opener against Wolves on Saturday.

Klich is one of a number of Leeds players who will be looking towards November’s World Cup as a motivation for game time.
means Klich is more likely to start for Poland at the World Cup, but doubts may creep in if he’s not getting game time at Leeds.
“Listen, I really like Mateusz and his mentality has been great. He understandably really wants to go to the World Cup, which, you know, all of our guys are trying to figure out how it all fits and it’s an important four or five months for a lot of players.”
Klich has been a vital player for Leeds for several years now, at one point going on a run of 92 consecutive league starts under Marcelo Bielsa.
However, Leeds have strengthened heavily in Klich’s position this summer, with Brenden Aaronson, Marc Roca, Tyler Adams all impressing last night, and Darko Gyabi also brought in to compete in Marsch’s midfield.
Marsch is still a fan of Klich, :
“I like having Mateusz here. He’s a great guy, and he’s put a lot into this. So, we’ll see what happens.”
The decision to sell Helder Costa is not a surprising one after he spent last season on loan at Valencia, and failed to make a serious impact two seasons ago when given the opportunity to play for Leeds in the Premier League.
A fractured ankle scuppered Poveda’s chance to play regular football in the Championship last season with Blackburn, and another loan move to build up his match sharpness and realise his potential makes sense.
While Leeds seem to have made their mind up on Costa and Poveda, it will be interesting to see where Klich is playing his football once the transfer window shuts.
