Jesse Lingard and Shaun Wright-Phillips send messages to Manchester City star on Instagram
Raheem Sterling scored the only goal of the game on Sunday afternoon as England got their Euro 2020 campaign off to a flyer. The Manchester City star’s goal against Croatia proved enough to win 1-0. Plenty have responded to his Instagram post, including Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.
Sterling’s inclusion in the starting line-up was a topic of debate before the match. The likes of Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford were also in contention. But Sterling was given the nod, as were Tyrone Mings and Kalvin Phillips, and Gareth Southgate’s selections paid off – massively.
Sterling broke his duck of scoring at a major tournament, netting in the stadium he grew up close to. It was a brilliant goal – worked well by Manchester City teammate Kyle Walker and then Phillips, who fed Sterling. The Manchester City man has spoken on Instagram.
What have Lingard and Wright-Phillips said to Sterling?
Sterling has not enjoyed his best season in a Manchester City shirt, but the 62-time England ace still had a hand in 26 goals for the Premier League champions. It is testament to the standards that the ex-Liverpool attacker has set himself over the years. It was his 15th goal for England.
Plenty have responded to his post on Instagram. Lingard, who watched the match in pub accompanied by an England shirt with ‘Rice 4’ on the back and a parrot on his shoulder, commented. Manchester City icon Wright-Phillips also reacted, posting a four-word verdict.
