Jermaine Jenas feels Fernando Llorente return to Tottenham would work
Jermaine Jenas has claimed that Tottenham should take up their reported offer to re-sign Fernando Llorente and feels he could help them in attack.
Spurs have lost their star centre-forward Harry Kane until April with injury and there is a real lack of options in attack, with versatile attacker Heung-Min Son and Lucas Moura sharing the load in central areas.
The North London club recorded a 0-0 draw away to Watford on Saturday afternoon and have now gone three consecutive league games without scoring.
, Jose Mourinho’s team have been offered the chance to sign Napoli striker Llorente on a short-term deal.
The report does explain though that they are “unlikely” to make a move in January.
Llorente spent the previous two seasons at Spurs acting as Kane’s understudy and the physical centre-forward did a good job whenever called upon.
The veteran Spaniard joined Italian club Napoli in the summer after scoring 13 times in 66 appearances for Spurs.
Pundit Jenas has suggested that he could be the ideal short-term fix to solve the problem of Kane’s injury.
“There is talk of Llorente coming back to the football club. He did a great job as that leading kind of marksman at the top end of the pitch, he brings that physicality holds up the ball well and allows you to build from the front,”
“Also he’s the type of player that you know once Harry’s back will revert back to the bench. Somebody like that would work perfectly.”
TBR’s View:
Llorente may be a decent option for Spurs to consider this month and they should have him as a last resort at least, as they desperately need a reinforcement this month.
He would surely be able to make a quick transition if he returned to the Premier League and would help link up with the team’s more creative players.
There look a very small chance that Mourinho’s side can claw their way back into the top four race and they can count themselves out altogether if they don’t sign a forward this month.
