Jermaine Beckford thinks Wolves star deserved punishment for incident against Leeds

Jermaine Beckford has questioned why Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez was not handed any punishment for kicking out at Leeds United defender Robin Koch – during Monday night’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves.

Jimenez, 29, scored his third goal of the Premier League season in five appearances which proved the difference during a close affair against Leeds on Monday night. His effort was deflected in by Kalvin Phillips, and it could go down as an own goal.

Following the goal, impressive Germany international Koch strolled out of defence and near the touchline was involved in an altercation with Jimenez. The Mexican was tackled, and while on the floor, replays showed him kick out at Koch.

A bit of pushing ensued but despite VAR, no action was taken against the Wolves striker despite incidents such as Son Heung-min being sent off last season for kicking out at Antonio Rudiger in a similar scenario. Beckford felt punishment was needed.

TBR’s view – Did Jimenez deserve action against him?

While the replays are pretty evident that Jimenez did look to kick Koch while on the floor, it would have been harsh to send him off – as it was harsh that Son was sent off during Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea last season for kicking Rudiger.

In the modern game, kicking a player on the deck is certainly a red card – especially if the ball has gone, ask David Beckham. But it was hardly a kick out that warranted an early bath. Should VAR have had a look? Perhaps.
