Jermaine Beckford reacts to Jamie Shackleton’s display in Leeds win
Jermaine Beckford that Jamie Shackleton’s energy levels in Leeds’s win over Aston Villa on Friday were absolutely phenomenal.
Shackleton may have gone into the game expecting, at most, to play a small role at Villa Park. However, plans changed as Pascal Struijk picked up an early yellow card and then committed another foul shortly after.
That prompted Marcelo Bielsa to make a change. Mateusz Klich dropped back and Shackleton came on and into the middle of the park.

And it proved to be an inspired change. Klich was outstanding in Struijk’s place. And there is no question that Shackleton produced a remarkable display.
He was just as important as Klich and Rodrigo as Leeds dominated the midfield battle. And he played a key part in Patrick Bamford’s third goal.
‘Absolutely phenomenal’
And Beckford suggested that the 21-year-old stepped up in a way that would have left you with absolutely no idea as to how little football he has actually played this term.

“He just looked like he’d played every game this season,” . “He didn’t look like a player that had just been drafted in to fill a gap. He looked like he knew exactly what he was supposed to do, where he was supposed to be.
“His energy levels right from when he first came on until the end of the game were absolutely phenomenal.”
Shackleton has now made 43 league appearances for Leeds. But he has rarely enjoyed a prolonged run in the side. And yet, he has proved time and again that he is a player that Bielsa can trust.
So it will have come as little surprise to many that Shackleton did shine at Villa.
