Jermaine Beckford amazed by display of Leeds star Pablo Hernandez

Leeds United majorly impressed during their 5-0 demolition of Stoke City on Thursday in the Championship, but the club’s ex-forward Jermaine Beckford picked out substitute Pablo Hernandez as a real star of the show.

Marcelo Bielsa’s team took another step in the right direction in their pursuit of automatic promotion, as they regained top spot in the league table with only four matches left.

The Yorkshire club have a six-point lead over third-placed Brentford to try protect and travel to Swansea City on Sunday next.

Leeds had a one-goal advantage due to Mateusz Klich’s penalty at half-time, but they turned on the style in the second period with goals from Helder Costa, Liam Cooper, Hernandez and Patrick Bamford.

Manager Bielsa introduced Hernandez to the action as a half-time substitute, with the Spanish attacking midfielder contributing a goal and an assist.

The 35-year-old tucked in a composed finish to the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the box, as well as pulling a pass back to set up captain Cooper for his strike.

“Hernandez when he came on made a humongous difference. He’s involved in a lot of the goals,”

“Not only did he score, but he had an assist and was involved heavily in one of the other goals. Another masterclass from Pablo Hernandez.”

TBR’s View:

Despite turning 35 in April, Hernandez once again proved what a vital player he is at Elland Road and it must be a shame for Leeds fans that he’s not a few years younger.

The playmaker lifted the quality in the final third for his side when introduced to the action and he’s got the ability to improve others around him.

Bielsa’s team have responded to the blip of the Luton draw with back-to-back wins against Blackburn and Stoke, which now has them on the cusp of a top-flight return to the Premier League.
