Jermain Defoe was shocked by something Son Heung-min did in Tottenham’s defeat to Aston Villa

In all honesty, Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat to Aston Villa in the FA Cup shouldn’t have been a surprise, even if Villa Park has been a happy hunting ground for Spurs in the past.

Unai Emery has his own injury woes at Villa but they are nothing in comparison to the problems that Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou are experiencing.

Postecoglou had no senior attackers to turn to on Sunday evenin🦂g, when Villa introduced January signings Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio off of the bench.

Most Premier League sides would s🥃truggle 𓆏to beat Villa away from home, and Spurs without 11 first team players didn’t stand a chance.

That being said, there were still one or two surprising elements to Tottenham’s display, and one was a decision by Son Heung-min in front of goal.

Jermain Defoe shocked by Son Heung-min in front of goal for Tottenham

In the second half of Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Villa, Son had an excellent chance to take a shot at goal but instead passed to Yves♏ Bissouma, which felt like a significant moment.

Former Tottenham man Jermain Defoe discussed the moment on covera꧟ge of the game alongside Dion Dublin.

Defoe was serio🐭usly ‘surprised’ by Son’s decision not to shoot, which was perhaps an indicator of his confidence right now.

Initially speaking about Spurs as a whole, Dublin began: “I hate to say this but we used to call it hiding – I don’t want it, pretend, you know – go into a position where you can꧃’t rece♋ive it.

“And that’s what’s happening at the moment, no Spurs player and Sonny, who’s their best player, is at the moment going through that phase as well because he doesn’t want it, because he’s n𒁏ot having a good time.

“Alan Shearer said it in comms, there was a shot to be had from eight♔ yards out, and Sonny nudged it to his mate.”

Defoe then added: “You expect him to shoot there,𓆉 I was surprised, I couldn’t believe it – I mean in the studio here we shouted shoot.

“You know, he’s so good with both feet, even change the angle and get a shot on that, but listen, we’ve a𒉰ll been the✨re, everyone who’s played the game you’ve had periods when you’re not playing well.

“And at times you do hide, but t⭕hen sometimes it’s about going back to basics, you stick together🍰 as a group.”

Son Heung-min is desperate for a rest

Recently Postecoglou admitted that Son needs a rest, and the Tottenham ca🌼ptain does look understandably fatigued.

The 32-year-old has been trying to drag his team forward during a difficult period on the pitch, as well as the work he must 💫be doing off of it.

Spurs are being forced to rely on their young players a lot right now, a situation that seems to be♍ concerning Postecogl✅ou as much as anyone.

Either way, Tottenham should continue to recover senior players in the w🐭eeks ahead when their fixture burden should lessen.

And Son should now be afforded a greater period toཧ recover, a player who is leaving it all on the pitch.
