Jermain Defoe orders Tottenham to sign Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake

that he would love to see Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake join Tottenham Hotspur this summer – with Spurs in need of a replacement for Jan Vertonghen.

Ake, 25, has been one of Bournemouth’s best players with the Cherries struggling to climb out of the relegation zone. He has captained Bournemouth for the last three games, and is already an 11-time Netherlands international.

With the Cherries sitting in the bottom three, the chances are that with three games left, relegation could come about. Bournemouth will be fully aware that Ake could be one of a number of players to leave, if they do drop down.

Defoe, who played alongside Ake during a brief spell at Bournemouth before moving north to Rangers, is desperate to see the £75million-rated defender join Tottenham – and described the defender as one of the nicest people he has met in football.

“I would love to see him at Tottenham you know,” . “He’s got so much potential. Coming from Chelsea it was difficult to get in the team there. He went to Watford, and Bournemouth paid a big fee for him.

“He’s technically good, Dutch players always are. Scores a lot of goals from set-pieces, he is really brave which is good. One of the nicest guys I’ve met in football, you’d even let him date your sister.

“I would love to see him get to the next level and play in the Champions League. I feel he is that good, I’m sure.”

TBR’s view – Ake would be a stunning signing for Tottenham

Previously rated at £75million, Ake would hardly be worth that kind of fee if Bournemouth go down. Even if Bournemouth do escape the drop, the current climate would surely see Ake’s price tag drop.

Vertonghen is set to leave this summer, while Eric Dier continues to be criticised as he enters the final 12 months of his contract. Ake would be ideal for Tottenham – especially as he is a left-footed centre-back.
