Jeremie Aliadiere comments on Matteo Guendouzi, admits Arsenal player’s past issues

that Matteo Guendouzi could join a top club like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain if he leaves Arsenal – and has admitted the youngster had problems with Lorient management in the past.

Guendouzi, 21, has been ostracised by Mikel Arteta for Arsenal’s last five games – not even appearing on the bench since replays showed the midfielder throttling Brighton striker Neal Maupay. That seems to be final straw for Arteta.

Reports have since emerged that Arteta had been left with a bad taste in his mouth by Guendouzi’s attitude behind the scenes. He is now being linked with an exit this summer, and Europe’s biggest clubs are being linked.

Former Arsenal star Aliadiere, who finished his career at Lorient just as Guendouzi was breaking through, admitted that the midfielder had his issues with Lorient management – and reckons Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG could be keen.

“I’m sure deep inside he is disappointed if he has to leave Arsenal like this,” . “He won’t end up at a smaller club. I don’t know if he thinks ‘I’m gutted I might be sold’ or will he think ‘it’s their loss, I’m going to go to Madrid, Barcelona or Paris’.

“I know Matteo, he’s like a little brother to me. I was buzzing when he joined the club, I’m gutted to see him in that situation now. He had trouble at Lorient with two managers, when he was young. It can’t all be the managers all the time.”

TBR’s view – Arsenal should cash in on Guendouzi

Guendouzi will become a top, top player when he finally realises his attitude must match his footballing quality. That has not happened just yet, and until then, he will only disrupt. At Arsenal, he will fail to do that under Arteta.

The Spanish boss has seemingly become fed up with Guendouzi. Multiple incidents would suggest that Arteta has been patient and was willing to wait for Guendouzi to grow up, but that, unfortunately has not happened.

When he eventually does mature, though, surely he will become a France international for years to come. Just, not while he is at Arsenal.
