Jean-Philippe Gbamin on course to meet Everton target for injury return

According to the , Carlo Ancelotti is set to be boosted by the return of Jean-Philippe Gbamin when Everton begin pre-season training this summer.

Ancelotti was only able to call on the Ivorian to feature once as he made his long-awaited comeback from injury last month, before Gbamin was sent back to the treatment room.

Gbamin was able to avoid surgery, but has to wait until the new term rolls around before starting to build on his mere of competitive action since a £25million () move from Bundesliga outfit 1.FSV Mainz 05 in 2019.

Just 11 of his minutes came this season when introduced from the bench at home to Crystal Palace last month, marking the 25-year-old’s return to action after spent on the sidelines due to thigh and Achilles issues ().

Gbamin is now undergoing rehabilitation at Finch Farm for his medial ligament damage and remains confident of meeting his scheduled return date of Everton’s pre-season preparation this July.

TBR’s view:

Gbamin not requiring surgery for his knee injury will have come as a boost to Ancelotti, who will not doubt be glad to see the midfielder avoid any hiccups during his first month of rehabilitation that could threaten a return this summer.

The Italian tactician was full of support for the Ivorian before unleashing him against Crystal Palace, claiming ‘we are sure he has the quality and the potential that he can play’ (), before soon missing the chance to truly see that talent on the pitch.

A lengthy absence could have seen Everton in the summer market, but may now be able to afford the international a chance to establish himself with a full pre-season under his belt that was not there upon his arrival in 2019 ().
