Jason Cundy says two Tottenham players were absolutely ‘pathetic’ vs Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur have lost to Nottingham Forest for the second time this season.

The Reds have been one of the surprise packages in the Premier League this term and are currently third in the table following their win on Monday night.

Spurs, on the other hand, are 13 places and 23 points behind Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, which is absolutely abysmal.

Forest went 2-0 up against Tottenham without really breaking a sweat, and the finger can be pointed at more than one Spurs player for their role in the defeat.

Jason Cundy blasts Tottenham duo Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario

Many of Tottenham’s senior players have let them down this season.

Ange Postecoglou definitely deserves some blame for the way he has set his side out, while injuries have hurt them as well.

But, even when they have had most of their players available, Tottenham have not been good enough, and the game against Nottingham Forest is a good example of that.

Spurs conceded very early through a deflected strike. Then, VAR saved them a few minutes later when Chris Wood‘s goal was ruled out for offside.

That should’ve woken Tottenham up, but in the 16th minute, Wood scored a header, and the goal stood this time.

Multiple Spurs players were at fault for that goal, but Jason Cundy has name-checked two of them and called their defending ‘pathetic’ – Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven.

He said on talkSPORT: “Chris Wood – he’s good in the air, it’s not breaking news.

“Why is Vicario doing a Superman impression? Van de Ven getting beaten in the air? Pathetic!”

Four Tottenham players are to blame for Chris Wood’s goal

Firstly, Wood deserves a lot of praise for his header against Tottenham.

The striker got himself in between Cristian Romero and Van de Ven and beat them both to head the ball into the back of the net.

However, Postecoglou will realise that the goal was avoidable when he watches it back.

Pedro Porro should’ve done better to stop the cross, but after that, Romero just watched the ball fly over him, even though he knew that Wood was behind him. He could’ve jumped to put him off.

Van de Ven was at fault too. He should’ve been a lot closer to Wood, but before he could react, the Forest forward was in a much better position to head the ball first.

Finally, Vicario charged out to punch the ball when he should’ve just stayed in his position. There’s no guarantee that he would’ve saved it, but he would’ve at least had a chance.
