Jason Cundy disappointed by Tottenham duo after Ajax defeat
Jason Cundy feels that Tottenham pair Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen both disappointed against Ajax on Tuesday night.
The two midfielders were unable to seriously inspire their team, as they fell to a defeat at home to Ajax in the first leg of a Champions League semi-final.
Donny van de Beek scored a vital way goal for the Dutch outfit after 15 minutes and they proved why they have already knocked out Juventus and Real Madrid in this season’s competition.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side now have an uphill struggle in the second leg if they want to make the final, but will have attacker Heung-Min Son back from suspension at least to boost their chances.
The North London club did lack a serious attacking threat in the first leg, with most of their moves coming from crosses by right-back Kieran Trippier.
Ex-Spurs and Chelsea midfielder Cundy wanted to see far more from playmaker Eriksen and Alli.
“I was disappointed in Alli, Eriksen. They were on the fringe of the game because there were times at the end of the first-half and halfway through the second-half when Spurs had good possession. Nothing come of it,”

TBR’s View:
Eriksen has been a talisman since the move to the new stadium, but he couldn’t be the main provider against Ajax and his final ball did unfortunately let him down on the night.
The 27-year-old couldn’t deliver against his former side, but there was a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and when he’s a little off the mark the team struggle.
Meanwhile, Alli also provided very little creativity from midfield and there wasn’t enough to breakdown a resilient Ajax backline that consists of star centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.
With Fernando Llorente up top at striker, Spurs had to try be a little more cuter around the penalty area and it didn’t pay off in the first leg.
