Jarrad Branthwaite emergence should see Everton give up on Yerry Mina – TBR View
After a difficult Premier League induction against Wolves, Jarrad Branthwaite has settled in nicely to Everton’s backline under the management of Carlo Ancelotti.
The 18-year-old has looked fantastic in clashes with Aston Villa and Sheffield United since and it appears the Toffees have a potential future star on their hands.
“He has a really good character apart from the quality he is able to show,” Ancelotti told the press this week. “It’s just the start. As I’ve said before we have to be patient with him, but he’s a really good defender. Good with the ball, always focused.
“I know his character. He’s really focused and humble. It’s a pleasure for us to have this young player.”
Signed from Carlisle United for just £1 million in January, Branthwaite has already demonstrated he might have a future in the Everton first-team whilst replacing the injured Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina.
Which begs the question, should Everton give up on the colossal Colombian?
Mina is a talented player, of that there is no doubt.
However, £27.2 million in the summer of 2018 and so far he has spent more time on the treatment table then he has in the Everton first-team.
But his exploits with Colombia and Barcelona pedigree make Mina a wanted man and a recent that Valencia are keen on a £15 million move for the player this summer.
With Michael Keane and Mason Holgate finding form recently and Branthwaite coming through, Everton should certainly consider whether the best course of action would be to sell Mina and get some money back on what has been a failed investment.
