Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu came off the bench to help Japan pick up a memorable win against Spain at the World Cup last night.
It was a rollercoaster ride for fans of Japan, Germany, Spain and Costa Rica. Every one of those countries could’ve gone through to the knockout stages yesterday, but after an outrageous round of footballꦗ, it’s Japan and Spain who’ve booked a place in the next round.

Tomiyasu ⭕has been struggling with a muscular inj🌳ury for a while now. He hobbled off the pitch after experiencing some discomfort in Arsenal’s game against FC Zurich last month, and he hasn’t been fully fit since.
The 24-year-old came off the bench in Japan’s win over Germany in their opening game, and he didඣ the same last night – this time, only for the final 21 minutes.
He needed to be at his absolute best to deny Jordi Alba and Ansu Fati on Spain’s left side, and he did just that with an absolutely outstanding substitute displꦏay.
Japanese media outlet hailed the Arsenal man’s pace and positioning last n🍒ight. Praising his defending against Alba towards the end of the game, the publication wrote: “Tomiyasu put his body in with amazing reading and acceleration, and the ball went over the goal line.”
The outlet further revealed that Tomiyasu has bee🦹n unable to take part in regular training sessions due to the injury in the back of his right thigh. That makes his displꦆay last night all the more impressive.

The Japan international has been brilliant for the Gunners almost every time he has played. However, injuries have really troubled him this season, causing him to miss nine games si🙈nce the start of the campaign.
It’s clear that Tomiyasu isn’t fully fit yet♍, but for him to do what he did while carrying an injury last night against world-class opposition shows just have good a player he is.
