Jan Vertonghen posts hilarious eight-word Instagram verdict as Tottenham cash in

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed the sale of Erik Lamela on Monday, as the Argentine joins Sevilla on a three-year deal. The winger is a part of a player-plus-cash deal by Fabio Paratici, for Spanish wonderkid Bryan Gil. Jan Vertonghen has issued a hilarious eight-word Instagram response.

Lamela, 29, ends an eight-year spell at Tottenham in which he clocked up a whopping 257 appearances in all competitions. The Argentina international now joins Spanish side Sevilla, who will be competing in next season’s Champions League under Julen Lopetegui. Gil goes the other way.

Tottenham have uploaded a number of posts on social media following the exit of Lamela – who was bought in 2013 with the money that came in for the sale of Gareth Bale. Spurs fans asked for their best Lamela memories – his rabona against Arsenal, for example.

What has Vertonghen joked about Lamela, after Tottenham exit?

Lamela, of course, has a reputation for his aggression. Somewhat steretypically when it comes to Argentine players, Lamela played with his heart on his sleeve. Moments of brilliance were often combined with moments of craziness. His red card after his rabona against Arsenal is an example.

Having played alongside Lamela for many years at Spurs, Vertonghen responded to Tottenham’s post [above]. Commenting an eight-word message, he hilariously claimed that Spurs players could now train without having to wear shin pads. Serge Aurier responded with laughing faces.

In other Tottenham news aside from Vertonghen and Lamela, Spurs are in talks to sign Nikola Milenkovic.
