Jan Vertonghen gives one-word reaction to Tuesday Tottenham announcement
Jan Vertonghen posted a one-word message on Tuesday after Tottenham announced the sale of Toby Alderweireld.
Spurs confirmed today that they have reached an agreement with Qatar cub Al-Duhail SC for the sale of the 32-year-old.
The defender has made 236 appearances during six years for the north London club, but has now completed an exit.
It’s a huge shame he’s leaving without any silverware because he was a key part of a team that were so exciting under ex-manager Mauricio Pocehttino.
In particular, his partnership at centre-back alongside Vertonghen was a special one.
The defensive duo, who also play together for national side Belgium, are both now playing their football elsewhere to mark the start of a new era.
Vertonghen’s simple one-word message of “legend” on is one that will hit home with plenty of Spurs fans.

Alderweireld sale a significant moment for Tottenham
New Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo is starting from scratch with the squad, so that means they can go in any direction.
Alderweireld has been an ever-present since his arrival from Ajax, but he’s left English football.
The centre-back positions are so pivotal to any team. Fortunately, Spurs haven’t had to think about that in recent years due to the Alderweireld-Vertonghen axis. They will be very lucky to find a better combination in the foreseeable future.
